A Wall Fifty Thousand Feet High And A Few Hundred Feet Deep Is Ridiculous

In case the Donald hasn’t noticed the altimeter reading of his airplane, it can fly very high, as do the hundreds of commercial and private airplanes that fly tens of thousands of passengers each day between Mexico and the United States — legally.

All a Mexican tourist flying to Las Vegas need do to permanently cross the border is to fail to get on the return flight. It is just that simple. So spending billions on a wall that has no practical purpose is just more Trump madness.

What is he going to do, build a wall fifty thousand feet high and some hundreds of feet deep just in case a few Mexican might want to cross the border on foot? Contrary to Trump’s pipedreams, Mexicans are not currently pouring across the border into the US. In fact the net crossings likely favor more Mexicans heading south than north.

Moreover, large American cities within a few hundred miles of the border do a booming business with Mexican shoppers. Indeed, millions of cars pass between Mexico and the US every day. If shoppers want to stay in the US how is a wall going to stop them?

Perhaps this Trump inspired wall hoopla is just a smokescreen to hide the fact from his supporters that he really doesn’t plan on deporting the dreamers, children of illegals. In any event, like himself, all these initiatives of President Trump are pure silliness.
