Actually what I was referring to was the negative offset of the Tribal impulse. The positive reason for the tribal instinct is so that people of like kind and interest will work together for the common good of the group. Unfortunately this impulse often pits one group against another — thus hatred and war.

Now this leads to the ultimate law of the universe: probability balance. This law (my law) states that creation is always at some point in time offset by destruction — stars are born, stars die, peace is offset by war and love by hate.

In other words life will, alas, always be an up hill struggle. But no matter what we must find a way to stay positive.
