America Is Even More Divided Than We Think

The nation is even more polarized than we think. On one side we have the Russians, international oligarchs and crime syndicates, Donald Trump and his White xenophobes and a big chunk of the Republican Party as well as the one percent. On the other side is progressive America and minorities, the FBI and most of the Justice Department, the CIA and the American military and the generally well educated. Talk about odd bedfellows.

With this convoluted collection of allies a person could be on both sides and not realize it. Moreover, on this basis one can get the sense that nation states are not nearly as meaningful as they once were, seeing how they are fractured between opposing alliances.

No wonder that some Trump voters have been seen at MAGA rallies sporting tee shits saying “I’d rather be a Russian than a Democrat.”

So this begs the question, when we act to see to it that the American vote is secure, whose interests are we really guarding?
