America’s Trump Containment Problem

For some 50 years America had a containment problem with the Soviet Union, which it successfully pulled off. Now it faces an equally challenging problem with one of its own. How to keep this bull in a China shop, Donald John Trump, from wrecking not only America but also the entire world, perhaps even the survival of the human race will come into play here. Yes, my friends, the problem is that big.

Republicans and Democrats are going to have to cooperate, not including the evil Ted Cruz who is nearly as dangerous as the Trumpster. With Trump’s chubby little figure on the world’s nuclear trigger this is going to be an existential challenge.

Currently, by the complexities of grasping for political power, I doubt that either party understands how to pull off such a containment strategy. Yet Republicans and Democrats are going to have to agree to some sort of truce if either is to survive a potential Trump dictatorship.

Of course the Republican Party has the most difficult part in this gambit to play simply because the temptation to ride Trump to political gain will be enormous. But Republicans must resist grasping the Tiger by the tail least we all end up within its belly. And since Trump’s most fanatical backers are also the current Republican Party’s core base, prospects for working even covertly with Democrats is going to be most pragmatic at best. This may be America’s last chance for political cooperation of a kind that saves America’s democracy — contain the impetuous Trump or die.
