As a Civil War writer I would say that the war was not just about slavery, but in reality without southern slavery there very likely would have been no war.

Slavery was the most contentious part in writing the Constitution. It took a war to initially settle the issue of slavery and another hundred plus years to enforce a revised Constitution on slavery from a civil right perspective.
