As a war time political leader, Churchill was exactly the sort cheerleader that Britain needed. Prior to the war, however, he was regarded as a political hack of the upper classes whose time had passed.
To regain political standing Churchill cleverly calculated that if he were to fanatically apposed Hitler early on it would revive his political career should war again break out with Germany, and of course it did.
The problem with Church was that he had terrible strategic judgement, especially when it came to military matters during both World Wars One and Two, a factor that needlessly cost tens of thousands of lives, including American lives.
But naturally he was a thousand times better than the current moron who infests our White House.
