As long as a muticultural democracy remained a not serious threat, the minority controlling forces were split between the two major political parties. However, the civil rights movement of the mid 1960s started the minority controlling factions moving toward a single party cheered on by right wing media.

And thus the tail now wages the big dog that is America. This has started American moving toward authoritarian rule--a real Hand Maidens Tail.
