In case you guys have forgotten already you beat the bum by some three million votes the last time. But while you and Hillary were all rapped up in beating Trump on issues and his faults, the Republicans (with lots of social media help from the Russians and voter suppression tactics) were concentrating on beating the system, the Electoral College system to be more precise. And, thus, by a hairsbreadth the crooks managed to win a few key states and with it the election.

And so with nothing changed — Trump is still the crooked dope he has always been, the Russians are still playing games with our democracy, voter suppression is still a problem, and the Electoral College still isn’t going away any time soon. So, Democrats, does this give you any clue as to what you need to do to actually win this time? Does it? Well if you guessed beat the God dammed system. Then you are on to something.

Look, since the day Trump smirked his way down his grand escalator, the nation’s political battle lines have been set in concrete — 60/40 — the 60% of America’s better angels that care about democracy and American ideals on one side and the 40% rabble all caught up in xenophobia and their tribal impulses on the other. So stop worrying yourselves to death over getting the issues just right. It is pointless. No minds of any consequence are going to be changed on either side of the national divide,

Instead, all you need to do is make it perfectly clear that you are the ones that work to protect the heath and safety of average Americans, and the other side is a bunch of pathological liars that work to undercut the heath and safety of average Americans — simple. That’s all the issue stuff you need to focus on.

As for the rest, like the Republicans always do, you need to guard and work the system. You need to fight like crazy to neutralize voter suppression and Russian sabotaging of the election process. And by all means concentrate on beating the Electoral College system. Yes, indeed, concentrate your effort where the system (the states) most appreciates the effort.

Follow that simple strategy, and with your natural numerical voter advantage and whatever reasonable candidate you happen to nominate, you will win the next presidential election in a landslide — a piece of cake. In fact the hardest part of all of this is getting the nation and the world safely past the Trump years.
