Dear, Poly, you believe because nature has programed you to believe. It's all part of a creature's survival mechanism that makes it want to live at all costs, even to the extent of wishing for some sort of magical afterlife.

Of course religion makes no logical sense because human emotion-ego, I what I want, in this case the last vestige of hope, overrides intellect in most primitive as well as some very sophisticated minds.

As Eric Hoffer's book, The True Believer, says that while there are thousand of shades of religions (including dying God religions) with all sorts of bizarre doctrines,, the various doctrines are basically irrelevant. The only thing that matters of course is that the fathful believe.

I wish I could believe, there are great psychological advantages to blind faith. Unfortunately for me truth overrides self-interests--bummer.

Oh, what was it that Jesus said upon the cross after hours of agony? "Father, why has thou forsaken me."

Of all the many edits of the Bible over the centuries that is the one that most--from the church's point of view--should have been revised.

Perhaps that's one of a myriad of reasons why, for hundreds of years, the Church did not allow the faithful to actually read the Bible, even if they could. You think?

The bottom line here is that humans are going to belive whatever they feel compelled to believe. It is Sort of like taste. There is no accounting for it. I mean almost a third of Americans still support Donald Trump, a pathological liar and one of humanities all time grifters.

Believe me, Polly, if all the angels in heaven were to come down and tell you that Jesus was a fraud, you would close your eyes and plug you ears for they would not deserve to be acknowledged.

I understand dear.
