The two Democratic Senatorial wins in Georgia are cherries on top of the happy cake of America’s belief in rationality, Constitutional law, science and truth. Even 200 of American’s top corporate leaders — including Koch industries — signed a letter asking that Congress ratify the election results of a Biden Harris victory.
Corporate power loves its advantages but it is no fool. It is not interested in killing the goose that lays the golden eggs — democracy. It knows what happened to Germany when its industrialists backed Hitler in the 1930s because they thought they could control him. Corporate America will not take such a chance on megalomaniac Donald Trump today.
Democracy has dodged a bullet this time no matter what today’s Trump inspired Republican circus in Congress does.
Donald J, Trump is history. America’s underbelly has finally been defeated on all fronts. Thank God!
Okay, Trump and company have not been completely defeated as witnessed by simpleminded, easily lead folks storming of our capital-building in Washington DC. Indeed, simpleminded folks are easily attracted to the ranting of demagogues like Donald Trump. Simpleminded folks can’t understand why simple answers can’t be applied to complex problems, and autocratic demagogues like Trump says they are right. I mean, who doesn’t like someone who says you are right?
In reality life is not black and white. It requires a lot of nuance. In order to work, democracy, too, requires lots of nuance and patience to work well over time, something the masses are not well attuned to in their reasoning. So when a Hitler or a Trump come along spouting simple answers, “I can fix heath-care in a day.” Millions of citizens are excited to throw overboard our democratic complexities for someone claiming instant fixes. But of course, responding to this siren call of would-be dictators results in lots of chaos and pain for all concerned.
Alas, it is easier, for many to emotionally believe the impossible than to rationally work toward the possible. Yet American democracy continues to chug along toward a better place despite some major bumps in the road like our Civil War of the 1860s and Trump inspired violence and hatred.
