Donald Trump is at once a very simple and complex man. He is simple in that there isn’t much to him beyound his ego. He is complex in the ways that are required of him to keep his outsized ego afloat.

The thing is that beyond its ego value, I believe that a big part of Trump’s mindset hates the idea of being president, thus all the inexplicable cross currents of his behavior. He is a classic example of a man being pulled simultaneously in opposite directions — a lost soul.
