Every Dictator In History Has Enjoyed Invoking Emergency Powers In Response To A phony Danger Of Their Own Creation And Imagination
If President Donald J. Trump should summon such powers unto himself over his silly wall and Republicans not rise up alongside of Democrats in fervent opposition to such a declaration, the GOP is in effect announcing to the world and the American people that it no long is interested in a functioning democracy. It has instead decided to back an authoritarian cult of personality.
Such a power grab by President Trump and the GOP would unleash one of the world’s greatest ironies. That is to say that the last president of a freely functioning nation conceived while still partly in a condition of slavery, a nation that engaged in a prodigiously bloody civil war to rid itself of this original sin, should have been headed by an in part black man of the highest integrity.
If Trump is impeach or somehow fails to turn American into a dictatorship or Russian satellite before 2020, there is still the danger that relentless Hillary will run again or even worse that some third party candidate will run for president, one with enough money and notoriety to be noticed like Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz who is threatening to run as a third party presidential candidate.
Alas, there are always selfish folks that will refuse to vote for the good for the country, but instead vote to satisfy some poorly thought out personal emotion. Meaning of course that third party voting could once again put the traitorous lunatic back in the White House, giving him a second chance at destroying our fragile democracy by possibly invoking another round of emergency powers.
