Every nation has a cadre, many of them even mild mannered and innocent types, of fine Nazi material, driven in large measure by their primitive tribal impulses just waiting for the right conditions and manic leader to push them into a vortex of fiery hell. Obviously the conditions were right in America and the manic leader arrived on time. But will American ideals and democratic institutions keep us from falling into an abyss from which there is no recovery?
