Everyone, as I have said way too many times, is hardwired at the base ego level with tribal impulses that portend terrible outcomes. Fortunately there is a significant number of folks whose evolved intellect allows them to override these negative impulses toward the “other.” But even among these more sophisticated folks there are time when their ugly base impulses leak out.

Then there are those crude types among us who joyously wallow in their hardwired xenophobia. In any event, it will always be an uphill struggle to keep our destructive urges in check. Or maybe we have to bite the bullet and admit that a multicultural democracy is just not practical.
