Everything in the universe usually has a negative offset. But there should actually be less of a negative offset when plants are purposely altered rather than in nature’s randomized, helter-skelter means of change.

For instance nature produces many things like poison ivy that are harmful to mankind. Just the simple fact that humans are deliberately trying to avoid making harmful changes gives manmade changes a leg up on nature.
