Facts, Reality and Truth Are The Destroyers Of Hope
Since it is difficult, if not impossible, for humans to live without hope, we all, in some way, manufacture a reality that matches our ego (survival) needs or more accurately our perceived needs. I mean how else can religion and Donald Trump be tolerated among reasonably intelligent and educated citizens of America.
Of course religion is the ultimate survival hope, as it claims some sort of immortality among the Gods or forever with Jesus in the case of Christians. It is all of course totally irrational. But that’s the point. Hope is irrational. It is just wishful thinking. But since in the end hope is all we poor mortals have, we fight — literally sometimes — to twist facts and logic to equal our preferred answers for life. This can be true to some degree even among the most sophisticated of folks.
Of course wise men have understood for thousands of years the dangers of truth and knowledge. Indeed in the Christian Bible, in Genesis, Adam and Eve were warned not to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge. In other words my brothers and sisters ignorance is bliss — don’t mess with it. And that brings us to the Donald.
It has been said that men pray as much or more for their daily deception as they do for their daily bread. And for some the compulsive liar (slick salesman con artist) Donald J. Trump is an answer to such a prayer. Yes, his core supporters are the blindest and most hopeful of true believers. In an odd sort of way some of these crazies are in a much stronger psychological state than those of us addicted to facts and logic — they are truly the hopeful ones, as perverted as that may seem.
