Falling Into The Trump Trap

Look I get it that Trump is an existential threat to America and the world, but sometime the far left is just as bad. Yes, huge peaceful demonstrations are truly effective, but going crazy by insisting on blocking a highly regarded and highly qualified center right Judge is to shoot one’s self in the foot if one is a progressive that believes in the rule of law.

“President” Trump may know nothing about the technical workings of government or international diplomacy but he is a master manipulator of people. When he put up Judge Neil Gorsuch to fill the Supreme Court vacancy he knew precisely how the far left would react — just as he hoped. Judge Gorsuch is no Trump lover and Trump likely hopes that somehow he gets rejected, or pretending to placate his opposition he withdraws Gorscuch’s nomination.

Actually it’s a win win for Trump. If Gorsuch gets confirmed Trump can sell the confirmation to his base as a campaign promise victory and infuriate the left. If Gorsuch is blocked, or he pulls him aside, then Trump can put up a real rightwing stink-bomb who will rubber-stamp his overthrow of the government. Indeed, Trump is a master at framing things so that either way he wins. It is what bullies are best at.

Trump wants to drive his opponents down a dead-end street over the Judge Merrick Garland theft. In his sadistically cunning way Trump loves seeing the left tearing itself apart over the Garland massacre. Last night I had to watch my pal, Bill Maher, fall into the trap. Yes, the Dems, he said in effect, have got to grow a pair and resist to the death the confirmation of Judge Gorsuch. Oh, Bill, you are so easily misdirected.

Trump is a master of the bait and switch, the fake out. He’s probably already laughing to himself thinking about how silly the left will feel if Gorsuch is withdrawn and his true choice is rammed down their throats. See, folks, Trump will say, they didn’t want Gorsuch so I put up someone else and they still aren’t happy. Stupid left.
