Germany was, indeed, a very sophisticated nation when it ran off the rails with Hitler. The problem is that while the human intellect can do marvelously positive things, the underlying primitive ego foundation, from which tribal impulses reside, is always hanging around to do evil by those with a poorly developed intellect, as we see with the Trump fiasco.
