Hillary’s America: The Secret History Of The Democratic Party
Hillary’s America: The Secret History Of The Democratic Party is the most recent movie offering (just in time for the 2016 election) of the brilliant right-wing propagandist, Dinesh D’ Souza.
In this conspiracy movie D’Souza relates how it was historically the Democratic Party being the racist party, which is absolutely true. Early on it was the Republican Party of Lincoln, infused with abolitionists, that supported Negro rights; and conversely from prior to American Civil War until the early 1960s it was the Democratic Party that was the political home of the KKK and Negro lynching.
Of course that all flipped around 180 degrees in the early 60s as Democratic presidents Kennedy and Johnson began backing the great civil rights movement of those days.
With the Republican Party by the 20th Century having become the party of Wall Street and corporate America, which meant that it was in desperate need of votes, after all the rich are not a large demographic portion of the electorate, the GOP began pandering disgruntled Dixiecrats — old-line Democratic, southern segregationists.
The fact that by the 1970s the two main political parties has completely traded places on race issues gets lost in D’Souza’s version of contemporary history. For those not deeply steeped in political history, D’Souza’s cleverly crafted distortion can prove effective.
Still, it should mean something to even the most unenlightened among us that Democrats get 99% of the Black vote for a reason, and that it is Republicans who are the ones constantly pushing tactics and laws meant to suppress minority voting.
