I loved Obama’s unity ideals and wish they could prevail, but the hard left does does have a point. There is no question that at the ego base level of human mindset that negative tribalism is hardwired into all of us. It is only by an evolved intellect that individuals manage to rise above this dangerous bias.

Race bias, however, is only one example of this destructive impulse. People of like kind tend to bond together against the “other for any reason.” It is so basic that you could hand out red ribbons to some and blue ribbons to others entering a stadium and in no time flat the two ribbon colored groups would be finding fault with one another. Alas, conflict is a mainstream factor of human nature. Thus peace and love are always at some point in time offset by war and hatred. This of course makes multicultural democracy such an uphill climb.

I wish there were a good answer for this root conflict. Maybe genetic manipulation is the answer, but I wouldn’t advise proposing such a cure.
