Ideally we all want love to Trump hate. But in the real way human’s are hardwired, as one of my favorite social commentators of the past, Eric Hoffer (The True Believer), wrote: hate is the most powerful of unifying agents. Indeed, humans are far more fired-up and engaged when they are against something than when they are for something. It is why that even though folks say they hate negative campaigns, pols use them because they work.
