In large measure the Bible is a political tool use on behalf of the male rich and powerful for advantage, a part of which has always been to suppress women. Most religions have this in common.

For instance why does the Moslem religion require women to cover so much of themselves while men are free to go about their business wearing anything they wish. That, in fact, is nothing short of symbolic suppression of women for all to see.
