Is Robert Mueller The Savior Of Our Time?

Ever since the birth of America a great man has risen up to lead the nation through a crisis. After the founding fathers did their work to declare the American colonies to be a nation, a United States of American, General George Washington stepped forward to hold off the most powerful military force of the day until Benjamin Franklin’s diplomatic magic pushed France to become the decisive factor in our rebellion, causing the British to let her colonies go free after the decisive Battle of Yorktown.

Then as the Southern slave states began threatening to tear America apart, a shrewd man from Illinois, Abraham Lincoln, stepped into the White House and by both soft words and hard deeds slowly drew the states back together, destroying in the process that which from the beginning of our fragile democracy had been a thorn in the nation’s side — the Negro as the White man’s property.

And then when economic malaise gripped the country and a trio of international warlords, Hitler, Mussolini and Tojo were hard at work carving up the free world for themselves; Franklin D. Roosevelt revived the economy and leaded the allies to victory in WWII, setting up the foundation for the great mid Twentieth Century American powerhouse. And of course there were others who have been nearly as important at keeping democracy alive in the good old U S of A.

And now that a perfect storm of evil has thrown American into the tiny clutches of one Donald J. Trump, the nation’s better angels hold their breath to see if special counsel Robert Mueller has what it takes to save the nation from the orange blob.

Just as the great emancipator Lincoln was followed as president by the super bigoted Andrew Johnson, a creep who came within a single vote of impeachment conviction, the first Black president, Barack Obama, a man of the finest high character, has been followed by a man of the most dangerous low character.

We don’t really know what Mr. Mueller has going for him to save us and the world from the sick Donald, but we seem to feel, because of the nation’s past history, that the odds are very good he will have it within him to lead the nation out of its current nightmare.
