It Is Not Yet Time For Trump’s War
No matter what Trump promised his supporters during the campaign about avoiding war at all cost, he will have no qualms about going to war when he thinks the time is right. That time will likely be this time next years — just before the election — If he can manage to hold off a war with Iran until then.
Trump may not know much about anything, but he does understand how the primitive mind responds to a perceived strong leader going to war. During the first 3 to 6 months of battle a leader is wildly popular with his backers, but as the casualties begin to mount up and stalemate sets in his popularity begins to plummet. Trump will want to be on the popular end of his war going into the election. That means no way will he want to start a major conflict at this time. It’s just way too early yet.
Remember Bush one’s 1991 lightning fast war, Desert Storm. He had a 90% approval rating with big parades for the returning troops following the fighting and defeat of Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi army. It having been carried out in the desert where the US could unleash the full might of its massive military arsenal.
Of course his not so bright son, W, egged on by military industrial complex chieftain Vice President Dick Cheney, made the mistake of going into Iraqi cities where American firepower was greatly neutralized, resulting in endless asymmetrical warfare at enormous cost in time, money and lives.
But as long as Trump manages to hold off his war for another ten to twelve months, it won’t matter how much of a mess he makes of it, it will still work to his favor until after the election.
