Every time the Democrats come out with something that is good for average Americans and the GOP shills for the rich and powerful tag it with a bunch of nasty sounding slogans, the Democrats run and hide.

When Obama went and pushed though the affordable care act that would cover folks with preexisting conditions and a bunch of other good things for a reasonable cost and the Republicans derisively referred to it as Obama Care, called it a government takeover of American medicine and lied about there beings death panels associated with it, did the Democrats stand tall as a solid party and defend it? Hell no, they went and hid, allowing the Republican Party of liars to use it for a helpless punching bag.

As a reward for their cowardliness in not going toe to toe with the Republicans and allowing the liars to define the affordable care act as some sort of alien monstrosity, things went south in a big way.

In 2010, Democrats lost 6 seats in the Senate and 63 seats in the House, costing them a controlling majority. In 2014, Democrats lost again, another 13 seats in the House and 9 seats in the Senate; this time giving Republicans complete control of Congress. So much for not standing up for what is good and right and allowing the opposition to falsely frame an issue.

Now once again the Dems seem like they may be fainting before nasty Republican memes. Today’s Politico headline reads:

Centrists fear socialist tag will cost Democrats the House in 2020

Yes, it will if the Dems rollover. If they act like they are afraid of the term socialist. They need to stand and say that unless you have your own police force and army to defend you that you are a socialist. They need to say that unless you have your own road to take you to work in the morning that you are a socialist. They need to say that if you think Medicare and Social Security are critical programs then you are a socialist. Don’t let Republican shills for the rich turn the word socialist into an associate boogeyman. Fire back that they are acting like a bunch of predatory capitalist not beneficial capitalist. Indeed, at all cost, do not stand by and allow the lying GOP a wide-open field upon which to define issues as you usually do, Democrats.

The government that best serves the average citizen is one that encourages a careful blend of capitalism and socialism. Currently capitalism has overflowed its banks into predatory capitalism. The socialist component of our system could stand a lot more strengthening.
