Like a goodly number of Trump’s fanatical fan club, Trump is afflicted with two opposed impulses. The first impulse is simply for wealth and power by any means possible. The second impulse is a guilt reaction to the sleazy way he responds to the first rather uncontrollable urge.

In this offset impulse Trump is driven by self-loathing; he just wants it all to stop. And here is where we see him make these inexplicable tweets and gestures like a flashing neon sign to Mueller — I’m oh so guilty, please arrest me and get it over with. It’s like he knows revenge karma is hot on his tail. He simply wants the suspense of impending retribution to end one way or the other.
