Mayor Pete Is Hillary Without The Hypocrisy

Some who voted for Donald Trump said that they thought he exhibited authenticity. Yes, Trump came off as pure evil and made little pretense to the contrary. Indeed, Trump pushed the negative side of our human tribal impulse — fear and hatred of the other. It’s a very powerful impulse, especially among the unsophisticated.

Hillary on the other hand made a big deal of her concern for average Americans, this, when everyone knew that she had been playing footsie with Wall Street types, and getting paid big buck for giving speeches to them. Thus she came off to many as inauthentic, especially to those who had lost much, including some who had lost their homes during the 2008 financial fiasco caused by the reckless greed of the mega banks.

Thus one might conclude that it was better to be perceived as evil than a hypocrite. Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend Indiana refreshingly comes off as neither evil nor a hypocrite. He hides nothing, including his gayness. He is extremely knowledgeable and articulate in an inspiring way that appeals to our better angels, something that after the cutthroat years of the Trump presidency a large majority of Americans hunger for. Thus Mayor Pete’s hopeful persona and obvious ability has caused him to rocket up the polls in Democratic circles.

Those who worry that Pete may not be tough enough to defeat Trump only need reflect on the history of presidential politics. The most dangerous opponent of a sitting president is a candidate who is the president’s polar opposite. Without trying, Mayor Pete, by comparison, can make even the Sainted Obama look downright suspect, and of course cause Donald Trump to appear to be the sleaziest man on the planet, which of course he is.

Mayor Pete may seem like a mild mannered, easy mark, a push over. But unfortunately for the Donald, if Pete becomes his Democratic opponent, Trump will discover that the Mayor is mild mannered in the same way that Superman’s alter ego Clark Kent is of that demeanor. Pete won’t have to sling back mud at the despicable one in order to floor his grubby opponent. Pete’s superior character will naturally roll over and squash the Donald like a steamroller hard upon a cockroach.

In this prospective morality play of evil vs. good, the wicked Donald wouldn’t stand a chance against the goodly Mayor Pete. After all Pete won the Mayor’s race by 80%, in a Republican State for heaven’s sake.
