Modern Republicans And Dictators Are Successful When Playing To Primitive, Tribal, Me First Impulses Of Country Folk

Human impulses at the primitive level are always local — me, my family, my race, my religion and my region, sort of a super states rights mentality. National and international issues are looked on as somehow subversive to me first concerns. Hitler’s NAZI strength came out of Bavaria not Berlin. He hated Berlin as that un pure, cosmopolitan place of the rabble. Sophisticated, highly educated, cosmopolitan regions of nations are always looked upon by simple, local-minded, country folk as the enemy.

As with Trump, Putin’s political strength is in the main derived from the rural parts of his nation. It is quite ironic that it is the non-thinking country folks that scream the loudest about freedom, yet are drawn to the very dictatorial personalities driven to crush freedom of thought and action. It as if they are trying to convince themselves that freedom is important to them when what they really want is freedom from thought and action — have some strongman do the thinking for them. Trump: “I can do it all.”

It is one of the great tragedies of America that the nation’s governmental structures favors the localist, me first, country bumpkins, the self-centered isolationist. This most likely is why President’s like Harry Truman who built the post WWII international structure that has keep America free for so many decades are never wildly popular with the rural folk — in Truman’s case not even with his hayseed wife.
