Most regulations are there to protect the longterm good for everyone, including business interests. Unfortunately some business interest are always looking for instant gratification. They want to kill the magic goose and grab its all its golden eggs yesterday. Without commonsense regulations greed runs wild among the one percenters and the average guy gets the shaft.

Indeed, the whole purpose of our democratic form of government was to protect the common man from the excesses of the rich and powerful. But, alas, the rich and powerful have bought up big chunks of the government who then finesse the naive into voting against their own best interest, thus we now live in Trump World.
