My thinking is that ego guards personality by resisting change. The evidence for that is the common phrase “that’s just the way I am.” Not so much a common pharse, however, with relatively sophisticated progressives. Enhanced intellect always produces broadminded flexibility.

The negative offset to enhanced intellect is greater emotional vulnerability.
