Nature’s Ruthless Balance

For tens of thousands of years nature has been hard at work trying to keep humanity from overrunning the planet. It inflicted petulance, disease, famine and earthquakes, hurricanes and volcanoes. During the middle ages the Black Death would sometimes wiped out a third of Europe in a single season. Following WWI in 1918–19 the Spanish flu did in another fifty million.

Nature more and more has employed humankind’s own greed shortsightedness and plan old stupidity against itself in a desperate bid to maintain balance — war and the thread of nuclear weapons along with destroying the environment that leads to global warming that in turn fires up all the other things that are killing off humanity. It would seem that all our modern inventions and discoveries have imbedding within them a negative offset.

And now we have the angel of Death himself, Donald John Trump, to see to it that human destruction marches on unimpeded. For instance Trump found breaking the nuclear treaty with Iran, getting out of the Paris environmental accord and attacking the World Heath Organization (as he belittles the COVID 19 epidemic) as useful tools in his campaign to stir up chaos and death.

And now the crazy grim reaper that sits in the Oval Office is scheming with his fellow GOP killers to be president for life. Yes, nature can be very cruel in getting its way. Balance!
