I don't know if you have gotten around to reading my book, Apprentiice Killers: the War of Lincoln Davis. Thing is that it's about those who drove the American Civil War and not about those for whom the war was fought over. So I don't know how much that would be of current interest to you, but it does, i believe, add perspective.
