No doubt there is much truth in this article. Russia and the United States had been doing terrible things to each other, short of all out war, for many decades, and it would have been unrealistic for both sides to just stop on a dime.

The problem now is that Putin is both a thug and a bitter Russian nationalist who is using a silly, sick American president to ruin us at the moment — not good for anyone, including Russia.
