Now that as I write this comment the election has gone badly. The problem is, Dave, that by years of dog whistling the nation’s lowest elements, the GOP is trapped with Trump — the base of the party reflects the essence of Trump. All the establishment can hope for is that it can contain the Donald’s worst instincts, but, alas, that is like trying to lasso a bull with string. The door to hell has been flung wide open.
