People tend to measure human advancement in technical terms, thinking that somehow all that technology will somehow carry the mind’s ego emotions to a higher level. Well, of course it does to a thin sliver of humanity, but never enough to prevent recurring social and political mayhem. At the genetic mandate level it’s always going to be me and my life above all others.

So any notion of some inevitable upward trend of humanity is a poetic fantasy.
