Politically Inspired Lies Only Work Where There Is Feeble Opposition

The one thing that the Founding Fathers got absolutely right was the First Amendment, freedom of the press and freedom of speech, which they intended would guard the truth. At last count, according to the Washington Post, President Pinocchio has in less than two years already exceeded some six thousand either uninformed, distorted or outright blatant lies of the facts. You know, those alternate facts.

Some political pundits fear that Trump is issuing this blizzard of falsehoods as a deliberate strategy to ware down the public and the press whereby truth won’t matter anymore and everyone should then simply cave in to Trump’s masterful will to do as he pleases. Not going to happen folks.

You see the president has studied (yah in this case he actual did some reading) how ruthless dictators in the past have used the big lie in order to grab total power. But what Trump didn’t count on was that in all these successful takeovers the institutions guarding the truth were feeble. It was easy to mow down what little free press existed at the point of a gun. Moreover, there weren’t then thousands of hours of film showing the horrific outcomes of these dictatorial take overs to visually warn people against evil-minded demagogues the likes of the Donald.

I know you say if this is True then how did Trump get elected president. Suffice it to say that there was a laundry list of singular factors that allowed the foxy Donald to slip into the hen house, but that hasn’t prevented the guardians of the nation and the truth from throwing a net over him and keeping him relatively contained.

Sure some 40% of the nation lead by Fox News and the rest of the right wing media parrot Trump’s lies, not because they believe them, although of course some gullible and ignorant folks do, but rather because people are often want to repeat and support nonsense if they perceive that, rightly or wrongly, it is somehow beneficial to their interests.

But among the county and the world’s most thoughtful and knowledgeable citizens and free world leaders, Trump’s daily barrage of gobbledygook bounces off them like spitballs off a battleship. Unlike German, Japan and Italy of the 1930s, todays American has a massive wall of institutions dedicated to combating lies with factual truths — everything from huge reputable Newspapers like the Washington Post and the New York Times (along with countless other press organizations dedicated to uncovering truth) to hundreds of our most beloved comedians informing the public with blistering satire against Trump’s follies, not to mention the tens of thousands of patriotic career men and women in the Justice Depart, FBI, CIA and the military services.

Matched against this massive wall of truth upholders there is but the moronic Donald J. Trump and a bunch of his halfwit flunkies and a chunk of the electorate as easily conned by Trump as the Donald is hoodwinked by some of the world’s worst actors.

It’s not to say that Trump can’t do a lot of damage in his rampage though humanity, but it ain’t going to be because he managed to overpower truth.. In Trump’s case the truth will not set him free, quite the opposite, it will put him and his cronies in jail.
