There is a large swath of the American electorate who see that their account of America has been lost. There was a time for them when a black was a nigger and a gay was a faggot. It was an All in the Family world where White Archie Bunkers were kings. These folks see surrender as inevitable to that ever-dreaded enemy — change. They know they have lost their version of American, and by now they don’t really care, but, still, they are determined to go down swinging.

For them the bitter, nasty and vengeful Donald J. Trump represents the bitterness they feel for their own lost world. He is the iron fist of their last revenge. They don’t care at this point if President Trump hands America over to the Russians on a silver platter. They see their dreams of nation ruin beyond redemption. Liberal elites backing minorities have overtaken them.

It is a rather strange irony of human nature that the lower middle class exploited by the super wealthy seldom punch up. Instead they save their indignation for any success that may be enjoyed by those whom they see as being socially beneath them. And so when Trump disparages foreigners and minorities it is music to their ears. It doesn’t matter that he knows nothing about history or American governance or is totally devoid of leadership qualities, being additionally a truly despicable human being who might be on a gigantic worldwide suicide mission — none of that matters.

Their world has collapsed and Trump is going to make the winners pay. So he’s their guy all the way — the iron fist of reluctant surrender.
