The last time the Republican Party had meaningful principles Abraham Lincoln was president. Oh, and sure the Democrats have gone through some horrendous periods of pure evilness, too.
Today, however, any talk of one party being no less honorable than the other reeks of a false equivalence. Yes, Democrats have ties to special interests but they fade to insignificance alongside the totally bought and paid for GOP.
First we have the Republican mantra of lower taxes, lower spending and smaller government, a sweat sounding illusion, a wistful harkening back to days of old — the great depression when Republican recklessness combined with austerity held the country in poverty until World War Two forced massive spending that finally broke the nation out of poverty.
Basically this common sense sounding Republican mantra is simply a smokescreen of trickle down, voodoo economics designed to keep the nation’s wealth flowing exclusively to the super rich.
Then there is the Republican denial of global warming, a gesture to its fossil fuel donors. But no doubt the height of immorality is reserved for its arms manufacturer donors, the merchants of death fronted by the hideous NRA and its satanic ilk.
You know the NRA bullshit: “The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” How do we know which is which? Do the bad guys wear black hats and the good guys wear white hats?
In the anyone can carry a gun anywhere state of Arizona, when there is a bar full of dead bodies and guys blazing away at each other, whom do the cops shoot? Do they just shoot everyone with a gun and ask questions later? How about when you’re at a nice restaurant having dinner and a guy a few tables over has a nine milometer strapped to his side, are you going to be enjoying your food or wondering whether or not the guy with the gun is the good guy?
When a population is armed to the teeth the chances for death and mayhem goes up astronomically. Even in the days of the bad old west, unlike today, guns had to be left with the shrift when entering town.
Indeed, so-called Republican principles are literally killing the quality of the American dream. It is a nightmare, Paul Ryan. You’re not an intellect. You’re just a stooge of ruthless special interests, and you’re one of the better Republicans. Wow!
