Since demagogues like Trump appeal directly to the ego and the negative offset of the tribal impulse, there needs to be no connection between what they say and what they actually do as far as diehard true believers are concerned. A great deal of the Hitler’s faithful didn’t turn against him until the 8th airforce began turning German cities to rubble.

Another problem dealing with Trump is that all these sex scandals are working to normalize Trump’s lack of character. On the other hand, Jay, the fickle public always seems to pick the opposite personality of the previous president.

This thing could break so many ways at this stage it’s mind boggling. I still think Bannan and Trump are out to destroy the Republican Party and run off with its base to form their own party.

Then there is the possibility that Mueller, along the way of his Russia investigation, exposes Trump’s money laundering connections and he ends up in the slammer. Or maybe its just that life is moving too fast for democracies to keep up and so dictatorships take over worldwide. Who knows?
