When those who started Fox News, media mogul Rupert Murdock and his evil operative Roger Ailes and other right wing media companies and personalities like Rush Limbaugh, decided that there were big bucks to be made pandering to the hate and fears of millions of Americans by promoting patently false information that would seemly justify the dubious thinking of a particular type of audience, such deliberate misinformation placed enormous stress upon our democracy — democracy being critically dependent upon solid sets of verifiable facts.

Without truths a nation becomes helpless before every crackpot politician and dubious organization (like QAnon) coming down the pike, so that life for our nation’s citizens end up in a maze of silly conspiracy fabrications tailored to the special interests of political zealots and unconscionable sorts of news media’s bottom line.

Now, suddenly, there seems to be a possible way of putting and end to our fake information morass — mega lawsuits. The suits must be of titanic proportions because outfits like Fox News routinely bate aside suits in minor settlements as part of the cost of doing business. And so finally here comes a big one as reported by npr.

“Election technology company Smartmatic filed a massive lawsuit Thursday against Fox News, saying the network and some of its biggest on-air personalities made it into a villain and perpetuated false claims about the recent election.

The suit names Fox stars Lou Dobbs, Maria Bartiromo and Jeanine Pirro, as well as Trump allies Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell.

The defamation and disparagement lawsuit seeks more than $2.7 billion, citing damage from what Smartmatic calls a “disinformation campaign” that was waged by people who were unhappy with President Biden’s victory — but who also hoped to profit from former President Donald Trump’s persistent and erroneous claims that the election was fraudulent.”

If the profit of these lying propagandists organs can be bleed dry hopefully they and their kind will be relegated to the dustbin of history along with the shameful personalities that stoop to deliver pure lies, those who for a few bucks would throw America democracy under the bus.
