Suppose early one sunny Saturday morning the neighborhood was filled with terrifying screams. Folks run out of their homes to see the origin of the piercing sound.
They find a father nailing his son to a cross. People immediately dial the police and emergency medical services, as they pounce on this maniac father to stop his abominations.
The father protests their stopping him with the reasoning that his son was being made to suffer in order to wash away of the sins of their own children.
The next day, Sunday, after this nut job father had been carted off to jail, the good Christian neighbors were off to church to worship Jesus whose father had tourtured to save the world from their sins.
The moral of this story is that religion is always irrational.
