Thanks for your reply, Bruce. Look, I'm a romantic idealist at heart, but all one need do to see the reality is look at the end of campaign ads. They aren't appealing to love. They are directed at the worst of human impulses, not because they want to waste money, but because they move humans to act.

One terrific little gem of a book on that and other motivating human factors--try Eric Hoffer's, The True Believer.
