Thanks, Tim. I have this rather obvious general theory of the universe that says at some period of time creation is always offset by destruction--balance. Stars are born and stars die. Peace is always offset by war and love by hate.

The tribal impulse fits this pattern perfectly. The positive purpose of the tribal impulse is to have people of a like kind work together for the common good. And of course the destructive balancing offset is for peple to attack the "other."

The negative offset is the demagogy's dream opportunity, and reptilians minds like Trump jump to use the negative offset when the time is right.
