That is an excellent point, and on the surface hard to refute. On the other hand one could look upon these Democrats sliding over to Trump’s GOP world as perhaps the last of a long slide of Democrats pulled into the evil empire.
A lot of mid twentieth century working class folks comtinued to hold on to the fantacy that the industrial world of that era could somehow be restored. At first the job lost was mainly due to outsourcing, but now it’s way more AI robotics that is killing off the industrial labor market worldwide not just in the US. But in desperation (and hatred of Clinton) these Democrats were willing to hope that Trump was right that its was immigrants and China that were stealing their high paying jobs of yesteryear.
But, alas, Trump, like most Republicans, is already pushing money away from average folks up to the fat cats. Over and over Joe six pack shoots himself in the foot and votes against his own self-interest because Republicans use the fear of the “other” to do them in.
