The base human survival impulse springs from the primitive ego of which religion is just one facit of that survival impulse — I want to live forever in some heavenly paradise. By whatever religious gibberish this impulse to want to hold onto self forever is of no consequence.

The higher intellect of course has no interest in such fantasy. It simply smiles and goes about its way unconcerned about the whims of its childish roots.
