The Eagles: When A Super Bowl Team Goes South

Yesterday the Super Bowl Champs were beating up on the Caroline Panthers going into the fourth quarter. 17–0. All day long, the Eagles defense played aggressive, pressuring ball, keeping Panther’s QB Cam Newton off balance. Meanwhile the offense played aggressive football as well, going for it on fourth down when needed.

But then entering the fourth period either the head coach or the defensive coach or both chocked. The team went from playing all out aggressive football to playing “not to lose football.” Yes, the defense stopped pressing Newton and instead when into the dreaded fall back, prevent style of defensive. This injected new life into the battered Carolina QB, and he of course proceed to carve up the Eagle defense at warp speed.

The last time the Eagles went into such a not to lose shell was when they lost to Seattle last year. Apparently they forgot that experience. I see were the local pundits are trying to blame the entire team for the defeat, nonsense. This is a lose that goes straight to the top. When the team was directed to play it safe, its leadership screwed it.
