The GOP built a party perfect for a Trump takeover. You see the GOP WAS the business party. And being as there weren’t all that many business type voters (super rich folks) and that minorities were on the rise, the party was desperate to find a new constituency to appeal to — xenophobes it was.
By 2016 this alien force within the traditional GOP ranks swelled to become the controlling element. Trump looked around and said to himself, these are my kind of people. Thank you very much, chumps. Play ball with me or you will be on the outside looking in.
Indeed, by the time Trump slithered onto the Republican stage the party didn’t have a chance to oppose him. It was back the Donald or retire — goodby Senator Flake.
