The more primitive the ego mindset the harder it is to adjust to new facts. And I don’t necessarily mean IQ smarts, but rather intellectual curiosity to know the truth no matter where it leads.

In fact those good with numbers are often among the most reluctant to break old habits of thought and allegiance simply out of ego resistence. The ego hates change. Once it has accepted some concept as true it fights like crazy to hold on to such a notion. You will find a lot of Trump hating moderate Republicans caught in this ego trap. They cling to a Republican Party that is no more, incapable of fully acknowledging the deep of its alteration.
