The Mueller Report Is Only The Tip Of The Iceberg
Right now the nation is in an uproar over the Mueller report and Attorney General Barr’s political hackish handling of its release. This partisan and legal tumult is but the tip of a giant iceberg drifting menacingly through the nation’s consciousness, at least within the minds of those in the know.
As a supposed reputable lawyer, Barr has, nevertheless, over his years in Washington — and certainly most noticeable in recently months — made some strange statements about the American presidency that would have left the nation’s founding fathers aghast. Our American creators took extraordinary measures to ensure that presidents could never gather unto themselves absolute powers (they must never be totally above the law) of a king or dictator.
They did this by designing a system of government made up of elaborate cheeks and balances, and by adding an impeachment mechanism that could address situations whereby even though a president might not be acting in technically illegal ways, but nonetheless functioned as to seriously endanger the country or benefit him personally, he could be removed from office. President Donald Trump has acted guilty on both counts.
Meanwhile, General Barr has been insisting that because Trump is president, it is impossible for him to commit an illegal act. What gives with such nonsense? In America no one is suppose to be above the law. Indeed, when it came to the president, the nation’s founders added impeachment just to make sure that he of all citizens must act within the straight and narrow. Unfortunately what has crippled the impeachment system has been the formation of political parties and the partisan politics they have unleashed.
The titanic forces at work in America today is an eruption between America’s old White power structure compose of the wealthy corporate powers of Wall Street aligned with lower-middle-class working Whites desperately wishing to defend their tribal impulses of racial and cultural identity. These forces on the right within the GOP are in a pitched battle with the liberal, more educated left and their minority allies within the Democratic Party, a battle between the nation’s traditional powers and those pushing America’s long held ideals that are aiming for a modern, multicultural democracy in which all peoples are the country’s benefactors.
In the middle of this clash between old and new America sits the authoritarian leaning presidency of Donald J. Trump. By a roughly sixty forty split (60% progressive America and 40% old guard) it would seem that both the super wealthy and lower class working Whiles would prefer to risk a destructive Trumpian dictatorship than see America turned into a true democracy that serves the nation’s citizens of every color and creed. Behind Mueller’s smoke and flame report, this is what the real political hullabaloo is all about.
