Never since the end of World War Two has western democracy faced such an existential threat as since the joining of these awesome forces of tyranny and corruption. The question to be answered is there enough better angels and domestic institutional resolve and western democratic willpower to overcome this fearsome alliance. It’s as if Al Capone just took over the country and concluded a friendship treaty with Joseph Stalin and then signed a contract with the Nazi department of information.

It’s hard to tell if Fox News has become Fox RT (Fox Russian Television) or is more importantly the farm club for stocking the Trump administration. When it was said that history is played out by the best and worst of society over the heads of the masses, that now seems like a gross understatement. Indeed, the average American has no idea the magnitude of just what has happened.

It has also been said that the easiest person to con is another con. Meaning of course that America’s greatest con, one Donald J. Trump, has been taken for a ride by a far smarter con in the person of one Vladimir Putin, dragging the rest of us into their giant cesspool of depravity.

If this in fact is the end of America’s awkward stab at democracy, what a weird and wacky way to go.
